Argee Transport Co. is a heavy-haul trucking company based in the Midwest, which was founded in 1962. We have 59 years’ experience in the industry and are able to best serve our customers by obtaining proper state permits, providing financial backing and insurance necessary for each load. The only limit to our hauling capacity is what is legally allowed on the highways. We specialize in oversized and overweight heavy-haul trucking loads.

Position Overview

The pilot car pickup operator position is responsible for safely driving and escorting our oversized trucks carrying large loads while on the road. This position will include communicating with the truck driver and surveying the routes before a trip to ensure they can handle oversized loads.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Drive on public roadways and construction sites in accordance with safe and prudent practice, DOT regulations, public safety laws, OSHA regulations, and the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Operate and deliver trucks and their materials on assigned vehicles in a safe, legal, efficient, and professional manner without additional training.
  • Verify specification and order compliance for the materials delivered.
  • Operate assigned vehicle in accordance with the manufacturers' recommendations, Company policies and procedures, and safe practice.
  • Take special efforts to satisfy client requirements.
  • Complete and submit all executed delivery orders.
  • Use sound judgment in all driving and site conditions. Drive safely and carefully. Comply with all traffic laws. Adjust driving to the conditions. Take all necessary precautions to protect assigned vehicle and other’s property.
  • Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Read and follow state permits to safely escort CDL driver to destination
  • Properly communicate with the CDL driver on traffic and other obstacles
  • Keep vehicle clean inside and out
  • Pass state certifications on all states that require certification
  • Assist driver with load securement
  • Complete annual defensive driving training.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or demonstrable equivalent.
  • Previous experience preferred

  • Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Work Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
  • Must have a valid DL, no CDL required.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Able to travel overnight and sometimes several nights
  • Able to read and follow all regulations regarding escorting
  • Must pass post-offer employment drug testing, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.

  • Must be capable of driving vehicles in on and off-road conditions for extended periods.

  • Except for conventional corrective aids, must possess normal eyesight, depth of perception, field of vision, normal hearing, quick reaction time, unimpaired eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs and carry 50 lbs multiple times per day.
  • Must enter and exit vehicle multiple times throughout the day in a safe manner.
