Position Overview

Efficiently operates their assigned ready-mix plant and all related equipment and maintains it in proper and safe working condition.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Operates the assigned plant with absolute accuracy and in full compliance with customers’ orders and projects’ specifications.
  • Accurately reads, interprets, and uses projects’ specifications, customers’ orders, and mix designs.
  • Maintains raw materials inventory at proper levels to insure uninterrupted production. Orders materials as directed in accordance with the Company's Purchasing Policy.
  • Services and maintains the plant and all associated equipment in proper and safe working order.
  • Accurately completes all documentation and reports, and forwards documents to the Business Office.
  • Keeps site properly maintained, mowed, snow removed, vehicles properly parked, materials correctly stored, debris disposed, storm and washout water controlled, hazardous materials properly stored or disposed. 
  • Conducts basic IDOT concrete tests.
  • Assists production as directed, including driving mixer or material trucks, or operating equipment.
  • Works effectively under time and scheduling deadlines.
  • Consistently produces an efficient, accurate work product.
  • Works proficiently in a team organization.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or demonstrable equivalent.
  • Two years of experience operating construction or ready-mix equipment and vehicles.
  • IDOT Certifications are preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Command Data System knowledge is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Appropriate CDL driver’s license and all applicable license endorsements. Their driving record does not cause an adverse insurance risk rating or premium increase.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be proficient at reading, understanding, and speaking the English language.
  • Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess knowledge of Company policies and procedures, including safety.
  • Must consistently produce and efficient, accurate work product.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the plant's, equipment’s, and truck’s operating characteristics, capabilities, maintenance requirements, and mechanical features.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of concrete materials’ properties, concrete’s performance and properties, and mix designs.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and familiarity with personal computers.

Work Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years in age or older. 
  • Must pass post-offer employment drug testing, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.
  • Must pass D.O.T. required physical.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Must have a personal telephone or cell phone.
  • Must possess a safe working record, and not have any lost-time work accidents in the previous 6-months.

Physical Requirements

  • Must test negative on the pre-employment drug-screening test.
  • Must possess normal eyesight, quick reaction time, and unimpaired eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Must be capable of driving vehicles in off-road conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Does not have allergic reactions to concrete, or its raw materials or usual additives, gasoline, diesel fuels or lubricants.
  • Requires physical exertion, standing, walking and/or climbing in various climates and ground conditions, including temperature extremes, rain, wind and snow for extended lengths of time.
  • Must withstand continuous exposures to wind, dust, fumes, and noxious odors.
  • Must possess unrestricted mobility to twist, turn, bend, and lean in all directions, lookup, down and side to side without hesitation or discomfort.
  • Except for conventional corrective aids, must possess normal eyesight, depth of perception, field of vision, normal hearing, quick reaction time, unimpaired eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility, and balance to ascend access ladders and steps, and to maneuver on equipment and vehicles without assistance.
  • Must repetitively climb and dismount from a high vehicle cab 50-times a day.
  • Must repetitively lift up to 60-pounds, 50-times a day.
  • Must possess sufficient strength to continuously operate equipment controls and tools weighing up to 20-pounds for uninterrupted periods of up to 4-hours.
  • Skeletal, joint and muscle system must withstand continuous impact from driving activities.

Work Environment

  • The employee may be exposed to risk of electrical shock or burn.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The employee will be in a construction environment and assigned full-time to a specific plant site.
  • Varied starting time, Monday through Friday with weekend and some holiday and evening work required. Generally, 60-hours per week, as required by production schedules or completion of deadlines.
